MIDAS vs MDR, compared
We’re often asked why the MIDAS service can cost more than some MDR services. It’s a fair question. Many MSPs and IT partners offer MDR through an EDR vendor, and those services do play an important role in defending your organisation.
But MDR alone only covers one slice of the problem. To stay secure today, you need multiple layers of defence and support that span both proactive security (preventing attacks) and reactive security (detecting and responding to them). MDR is excellent at spotting active threats, but it doesn’t do the underlying system configuration that stops many attacks before they even start.
That’s where MIDAS goes further. Alongside device-level threat detection, MIDAS includes identity threat detection and response (ITDR) for your Entra ID accounts. In the cloud era, a single compromised identity can expose enormous amounts of data, and those identities extend far beyond a Windows laptop. They’re used across smartphones, tablets, SaaS apps, and even devices like printers. If those identities aren’t monitored and protected, neither are you.
MIDAS brings multiple proactive and reactive protections together: device, identity, configuration, and cloud. So when you compare MIDAS to other MDR offerings, make sure it’s a true like-for-like comparison. MIDAS isn’t just MDR; it’s a broader, deeper, and more modern approach to keeping your organization secure.
